Zuriel
At the beginning was the Word.
And the Word was Void.
Void merged and revolved and exploded.
From Void came Thunder and Trees, the Force of Nature,
All atoms in the Universe, tearing themselves up.
And the Word said to Man, "dance".
And Man danced under Thunder.
And from Man dancing under Thunder, Zuriel emerged.
And Man screamed and shouted at Zuriel,
And Void recoiled upon itself.
From the Word's screams and pleas,
A mask of Chains appeared, binding Zuriel.
From the mask of Chains,
The Void-Word imploded back upon itself.
Then was silence, stillness,
And absolute.
Zuriel is an extreme, display, experimental typeface, inspired by the concept of biblically accurate angels.
From the basis of the freely available typeface Pixtile by GGbot.Net, and from the "Be Not Afraid" internet meme, came to me the idea of a typeface that would be set vertically, and whose single repeated pixel would in a cyclic way hide exploded, complex shapes, merging infinitely upon each other.
Though Zuriel's intent is above all conceptual, as well as totally illegible and asemic in its extreme styles, its purpose can be in the creation of textures and shapes, graphical interpretations, or as a simple but functional pixel typeface in its Plain style. Zuriel’s specimen, in the form of a set of tarot cards, is an exploration of the mystique, of glyphs as characters.
